The Impact of COVID-19

If there is one thing we can be sure of, it is that 2020 is a year unlike any other. The challenges resulting from the battle against the spread of COVID-19 have a global reach. Everyone has a role to play, whether as an essential worker, a volunteer, or by staying at home to contain the spread of the disease. In difficult times like these, it can be hard to stay happy and healthy.

In France, many non-essential businesses have been forced to close temporarily. This includes Le Mas Candille, though we are looking forward to opening up again to welcome our clients back as soon as we can!

In the meantime, for those who are self-isolating by staying at home, don’t forget to focus on your health. When situations unexpectedly change, it can have a big impact on mental and physical health.

A big part of Le Mas Candille’s mission as a business is to ensure our guests are always happy and healthy during their stay with us! While we can’t provide these services at the moment, we can make some suggestions to help you stay happy and healthy from home!

Stay Healthy – Keep in Shape During Self-Isolation

Staying fit is even more important when you’re stuck at home for an extended period of time. Your general daily activity tends to be reduced, and many people get out of the routine of exercising. This is especially true for gym members, as they no longer have a dedicated area in which to work out.

However, exercise should always be incorporated into your daily routine as it keeps your body healthy, which will help it to fight off illnesses. This is especially relevant in these times of COVID-19! It also does wonder for your mental health – keeping you happy and feeling less anxious.

Take advantage of daily outings to ensure you’re getting some sunshine. We’re lucky to be in the south of France, where the good weather is consistent, even as everything else changes. Be sure to check government advice before leaving your house, as this changes frequently based on the severity of the situation.

If you prefer a proper workout, not to worry! Again, we are very lucky to live in the digital age. Many gyms and online physical therapists are offering free or discounted virtual classes. Or, if you fancy something more casual, YouTube will be your best friend in these times. Find everything from yoga videos to guided meditation, boxing, and more! Whether you have the equipment or not, everything you need is online! No excuses!

Stay Healthy – Low on Motivation? Follow this Quick and Easy Home Workout!

If long workouts aren’t for you, that’s okay! Why not give this quick and easy home workout a try?

Take the following four exercises: squats, push-ups, lunges, and planks. These are all straightforward exercises which we can guarantee you can do.

Now, create the routine. Aim to do 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 repetitions of each exercise. This workout is simple but effective: trust us, you’ll be feeling the burn when you’re done.

If you need to adjust your reps and sets, do so. Work with your body, not against it: it’s important to push your limits but this should always be without hurting yourself! If 10 repetitions are too many, start with 6, or 8.

Remember to keep your back straight when doing push-ups so you don’t hurt your back. And most importantly, don’t forget to warm up and cool down!

Stay Happy – Keep Your Mood Up During Self-Isolation

As people stay home during this virus outbreak to help stop its spread, it’s more important than ever to check in on your mental health.

Check-in with loved ones, take time to talk to your friends and family, and get into video conferencing with your colleagues.

The most important thing to do to keep your spirits up while self-isolating is to stay positive. Remember, by staying home you are playing a part in keeping everyone else safe, which is something to be proud of. Think of the essential workers keeping the country going, and if you are looking to help, look into volunteering! Reframe the situation by taking this time as an opportunity to focus on activities you may not have had time to previously. Have you always wanted to paint, but never found the time? Have you been meaning to give that friend a call, and never gotten around to it? And what about that recipe you’ve always wanted to bake!

Now’s your time! Learn a new skill, clear off that to-do list, and keep your mind busy!

Stay Happy – The Work from Home Dilemma

As the majority of the workforce moves to a ‘work from home’ set-up, be careful this is not having a negative impact on your mental health.

There are several ways to separate work and non-work life when your house becomes your office. Suggestions include not working from your bed (though we all know how tempting it is), getting dressed and having breakfast in the morning as you would during a regular workday, taking frequent short breaks, cutting off at the normal time, and even wearing shoes in your home.

Avoid overworking, and maybe, take working from home as an opportunity to have better lunches, enjoyable work breaks, and to not have to wear earphones to listen to music!

Lastly, remember that this is a temporary situation. At a point in the future, normal life and more importantly, flights, will resume! So make sure you’re prepared for your next trip by daydreaming about it now.
