Summer on the Côte d’Azur
It’s here, we’ve made it: it’s summertime! More and more countries, especially in Europe, are lifting their lockdown regulations. This means it’s the perfect time to book a trip somewhere new and get a change of scenery during the summer months.
Now, the question is: where should you go? The south of France, also known as the Côte d’Azur, is a perfect summer spot. Between the beaches, shopping, activities and sunny weather, it has everything you need for the ideal holiday.
We at Le Mas Candille are ready to welcome our guests back from the 3rd of July! Let’s have a look at some of the reasons you should be visiting the south this summer.
Number 1: The Summer Weather
It wouldn’t be a list on the south of France without someone mentioning the weather, would it?
When you visit the French Riviera in the summer, you can expect sunshine every day of your visit. With less than two weeks’ of rain per year, the region is famed for its bright blue skies and glorious sunshine, day in, day out.
The temperature is also ideal for a holiday. The coastal towns, such as Cannes, Nice, and Antibes, are full of beaches. In summertime and especially in the months of July and August, expect the temperatures to soar anywhere from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius!
In the evenings, the temperatures in the south of France are a cool and temperate average of 25 degrees Celsius.
This range is perfect for a summer holiday: the heat won’t be overwhelming and you’ll be able to enjoy the cool summer nights.
Number 2: The Beaches
Of course, we’ve already mentioned the beaches, but they really do deserve their own mention. The French Riviera’s beaches are renowned for more than one reason! From the weather to the sparkling blue sea, the delicious beach snacks (hot dog baguette, anyone?) and much more!
When you stay at Le Mas Candille in Mougins, you’ll have your pick of the Côte d’Azur’s best beaches. Are you looking for something more upscale, with sun loungers and waiters? Or something more casual with plenty of water sports?
Whatever it is, we’ve got you covered. While Le Mas Candille’s three swimming pools are glamourous, most of our guests will spend at least some of their time at the beach.
To help you decide which ones will be perfect you, we’ve put together a guide to the Riviera’s beaches. Read it here!
Number 3: The Shopping
Another thing the area is world-renowned for is the ultimate shopping experience. This shopping experience is another great reason to visit the south of France this summer. After several months of lockdown and quarantine in the majority of countries this year, your wardrobe might be a tad depleted.
Why not spruce it up with some high-end shopping trips on holiday?
When it comes to shopping on the Côte d’Azur, the options are endless. If you’re looking to hit the big brand names and not necessarily empty out your bank account, head to Polygone Riviera. This is a beautiful outdoor mall located just 15 minutes from Le Mas Candille. The mall also features a casino, a cinema, and multiple restaurants, so this can easily be made into a day trip if you’re taking a break from the beach!
If you’re looking to pick up some more original and French-inspired items, head to the local markets and small towns, such as Valbonne. Many independent shop-owners will be present at weekly markets, giving you a chance to spot something unique. This is also a great destination for some traditional Provencal pieces, such as espadrilles.
And if you’re looking for an elegant and one-of-a-kind shopping experience… you’ve come to the right place! For the designer and independent couture brands, visit the Croisette in Cannes or head to Monte Carlo.
If you shop in Cannes, you’ll only need to travel 10 minutes from Le Mas Candille and can enjoy lunch on the beach to break up your day. If you head to Monte-Carlo, why not make a day trip of it? Read our locals’ guide to Monaco and Monte-Carlo here.
Number 4: The Food
Summer is about the weather, but it’s also about food and drinks. Enjoying a fresh salad with a chilled glass of rosé on your terrace in the winter just isn’t the same, is it?
So make the most of summer food trends and enjoy them on the Côte d’Azur! Make the most of the environment you’ll be in by tasting some of the best delicacies on offer – check out our list of 10 unmissable French delicacies here! Chocolate éclair, anyone?
Next, make the most of the warm, sunny weather and enjoy some fresh seafood. Le Mas Candille’s restaurant, the Bistrot du Mas, is full of delicious dishes which include the catch of the day.
And for breakfast, nothing beats a warm, freshly-baked baguette with some local honey and jams from Le Mas Candille’s luxurious breakfast buffet. Although we hear their French toast is pretty good too…

Number 5: The Summertime “Ambience”
Nothing beats the atmosphere surrounding everything on the French Riviera in the summertime. The months of May, June, July, August and September are when the region thrives. The sun’s out, the beaches are full, and the food is delicious… what more could you want from a summer holiday?
The ambience of the Côte d’Azur is really captured by a relaxed and laid-back attitude towards the summer. In the south of France, the summer months are designed to be spent on a boat, bobbing along the coast, with a glass of rosé or Apérol Spritz in hand.
If you’re struggling to relax, then not to worry! Book an ESPA aromatherapy or hot stone massage as the Spa Candille and feel your worries melt away. And if massages aren’t for you, check out the full list of offerings here.
We Look Forward to Welcoming You this Summer!
