Enjoy Some Riviera Fresh Air

There is always so much to do on the French Riviera! For those days where you’re not feeling like heading to the beach but would still love to make the most of the clear blue skies and crisp fresh air, check out the five spots below. These are great for full-day trips or a quick walk, whichever works best for you!

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the idea of spending time indoors on holiday, or in a crowded outdoor location, might not appeal as it once did. Thankfully, the French Riviera is perfectly suited to outdoor, fresh air activities.

Check out the five spots below to get the most out of the French Riviera’s natural environment.

Coastal town Antibes

The Cap d’Antibes, Antibes/Juan-les-Pins

The Cap d’Antibes is a famously beautiful landscape in Antibes, located between Nice and Cannes.

While the town is a renowned home to the rich and famous with splendid villas dotted along the coastline, the walk along this coastline is a stunning attraction in itself. The hike will take you along the Cap’s jagged cliffs and coast, with the sea right below giving off the occasional spray. The view from this walk is beautiful: on one side, catch a glimpse of the luxurious villas hidden by the dense pine trees. On the other, observe the Alps in the skyline with nothing but the Mediterranean and coast in between.

To get to Antibes, speak with our reception team to arrange a car or transport. Antibes is located approximately 20 minutes from Mougins, so this is an ideal destination for an afternoon in the fresh air.

croisette

La Croisette, Cannes

A classic, and for good reason.

The Promenade de la Croisette (or ‘the Croisette’ for short) is the iconic 2km stretch of walkway which lines Cannes’ coast. It is the perfect spot for an early morning or evening walk to have an unforgettable view of the glistening Mediterranean on one side, and the glamourous hotel front on the other.

If you go the Croisette in the morning, be sure to stop at one of the many locally-owned kiosks and enjoy a strong coffee and flaky croissant (or maybe even a Nutella crêpe…). If you go in the late afternoon or evening, make the most out of some people-watching and be sure to have dinner, either along the beachfront or at a local restaurant. For excellent seafood, we recommend Astoux and Brun nearer to the port side of the town.

You can get to the Croisette by car within 15 minutes from Le Mas Candille, by bus from the Tournamy Mougins shopping centre, or by train from Mouans-Sartoux. Be sure to ask our reception team for help in getting there.

park

The Valmasque Forest, Mougins

Reconnecting with nature is so important in our everyday lives. It can be tricky to do this while on holiday, but thankfully, this isn’t the case in Mougins!

If you’re in the mood for some fresh air, a nice walk/run in the forest, a picnic, or to look at the ducks that inhabit Europe’s largest lily pond, head to the Valmasque Forest in Mougins. The Valmasque Park and Forest covers an area of approximately 560 hectares and is brimming with flora and fauna.

You can get to the park many ways, and depending on your preferences can join one of the well-established hiking and walking trails. Walk to the Valmasque park and lake from Le Mas Candille in about 30 minutes, or drive there in 10. Learn more about the park here.

The Lerin Islands off the coast are a fantastic getaway from business meetings

The Lérins Islands, Cannes

If you’re looking for a day trip destination that’s close to Mougins and takes full advantage of the gorgeous Mediterranean climate, the Iles de Lérins is the place for you!

The Iles de Lérins are a group of 4 islands in the Baie de Cannes. The most well-known are the Ile Sainte Marguerite and Ile Saint-Honorat. The latter is home to the renowned Abbaye de Lérins, a monastery which also produces exceptional wine and is opening to visitors. The sunny islands are perfect for a hike along the pine trails, or for a dip in the sea away from the crowded beaches.

To get to the islands, take a short ferry trip directly from Cannes. This ferry goes to and from the ports frequently throughout the day, so you can be flexible here. To book your tickets, click here.

Côte d'Azur's Best Beaches

The Beaches in Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez is a world-renowned holiday destination, and for good reason. The beaches of this historic seaside town are located in the Baie de Pampelonne, with clear turquoise waters and stretches of sandy beaches. The town also features delicious dining options and is known for its exciting nightlife.

Saint-Tropez is a great open-air day trip destination. To get there from Mougins, you can choose to take the ferry from Cannes, which will get you there in under one hour and a half. Alternatively, you can drive to Saint Tropez along the motorway, however, this route becomes congested during the summer months.
