The Côte d’Azur is a stunning and excellent location for a holiday. And for any type of holiday, for that matter. Laid-back, seaside weekend? Perfect! Cultural, adventurous trip? Not a problem! Artistic journey through the hills of Provence? Ideal!
The Côte d’Azur is also known for its stunning weather.
It’s difficult to picture the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, or even Le Mas Candille’s beautiful terrace, without also picturing a stunning blue sky and bright sun all day long.
Because of this incredible weather, the Côte d’Azur is often associated with summer holidays more than any other. There’s good reason for this, as you can read in our blogs here. During the summertime at Le Mas Candille, you’re perfectly placed to take advantage of the seasonal offerings, from kayaking in the Gorges du Verdon to finding the perfect beachy spot down in Cannes.
The Côte d’Azur is also an ideal location for winter holidays! Being so closely located to the French and Italian Alpes, those who are fond of skiing and snowboarding will have their pick of the slopes, while also being away from the hustle and bustle of overcrowded slope-side hotels.
And what about autumn?
While autumn on the Côte d’Azur is a phrase thrown around a lot less often than summer, it is actually one of the best times to visit the region.
The Côte d’Azur’s famous sun is well-known, but what’s great about it is that it’s year-round. Autumn on the Côte d’Azur is just as sunshine-filled as August!
This predictable glorious weather is the number one reason to enjoy autumn on the French Riviera. You can enjoy all of the same activities you would in the summer, such as walks along the beach, hiking around the Gorges du Verdon, visiting art galleries, in pleasant weather.
What’s more, you can do it without the throngs of tourists which fill the Riviera’s towns every summer!
Autumn on the French Riviera is the Best of Both Worlds: All the Sun, None of the Crowds!
All of the benefits without the crowds is great for many reasons.
Firstly, prices on flights suddenly become very reasonable. On one hand, this means that not visiting the Riviera during autumn is a massively missed opportunity! For instance, if you live in London, you can book return flights between London and Nice for under 50 pounds. It would be a crime not to visit us with these flight prices!
On the other hand, if you had planned on visiting the Rivera anyway and were pleasantly surprised at the low cost of the flights, why not take this opportunity to have the luxury trip of your dreams?
Since you will be saving money on flights, why not upgrade your hotel room to a suite? At Le Mas Candille, our suites are spacious and a complete adventure in luxury. Treat yourself and your partner to an unforgettable good night’s sleep in a suite for a special trip!
Or, if upgrading your room isn’t your cup of tea, why not check out a cocooning day at the Spa Candille? Create your own luxury holiday by deciding which treatments would best suit you, and by taking full advantage of our renowned Spa’s indoor and outdoor amenities! And unlike in summer, you won’t have to worry about missing out due to overbooking!
There’s Never an Off-Season for Art
Take advantage of everything Provence’s artistic wealth has to offer by exploring the region’s cultural gems in peace.
Autumn can be an ideal time for art-lovers to explore Mougins and the surrounding towns’ wealth of art galleries and history.
For instance, after a long breakfast on Le Mas Candille’s terrace, take a gentle walk up to the medieval town centre of Mougins to discover the Museum of Classical Art (MACM) and the many galleries that fill the village’s winding alleys.
If you’re looking at heading further afield… ask our reception for tips on uncovering Nice and Grasse’s artistic troves! Read about some of the activities and museums in store here. Or how about a day trip to Èze, where the views are just as stunning as the artwork?
Best of all, you won’t have to worry about summer traffic!
What’s On in Autumn?
Another benefit of visiting Mougins and its surroundings in autumn is the sheer volume of events that are taking place in the region at this time.
While May is known for the Cannes Film Festival, autumn has so much more going on. Mougins, Cannes and their lovely neighbouring villages may have a peaceful outer face, but there’s always something going on behind the scenes.
A big event of the autumnal season is the NRJ Music Awards, which this year are taking place on November 9th. For those who work in the music industry, or those who are fans of it, this will be a hectic weekend in the Cannes-Juan les Pins area. Fortunately, Mougins is perfectly placed to have easy access to all of the events!
Autumn is also an important time for theatre on the Côte d’Azur. The famed Palais des Festivals in Cannes hosts troupes from around the world, and smaller, city-wide theatre festivals take place across the region. For those interested in theatre, in specific genres, or in acquiring tickets for shows, please contact our reception team.
Keep an eye out for the biannual Dance Festival hosted in Cannes in November. Showcasing current trends and frontrunners in international dance, this event is not to be missed for those interested in the sport. For more information on acquiring tickets, please contact our reception team.
And of course, don’t forget the wine!
Every November, the internationally recognised product of Beaujolais grapes is released to the public. The red wine is the most popular vin de primeur. Released on the third Thursday of November, the arrival of this wine is excitedly awaited and well-celebrated. For wine aficionados, you will want to be in France when this year’s wine launches!
And More… Don’t Miss Out!
There is always so much to do on the French Riviera, you really can’t see it all in one go!
Missed out from this list but essential nonetheless is… the relaxing autumn holiday. As in, autumn is an excellent time to visit Le Mas Candille, enjoy the peace and quiet, and just breathe. It’s so important to take time for yourself (especially in the run-up to the holiday season!), and we can’t think of anywhere or any time better for it than autumn on the Côte d’Azur.
We’re looking forward to your visit!
