Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

"Shiatsu" is a Japanese word meaning "finger pressure".  It originated in Japan from traditional Chinese medicine, with influences from more recent Western therapies. Shiatsu is a "hands-on" therapy used both as a compliment to conventional medicine and as a preventative/alternative therapy. Shiatsu is a physical therapy that supports and strengthens the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself. It works on the whole person - not just a physical body, but also a psychological, emotional and spiritual being.

Shiatsu benefits:
Reducing stress and tensions
Stimulate and strengthen the immune system
Balance our whole energy system
Provide physical and psychological relaxation, and in doing so, improve well-being

Who can enjoy Shiatsu? Shiatsu is aimed at each person, regardless of age, who wishes to maintain or develop a level of physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing. Shiatsu is often not recommended for pregnant women or for certain diseases. Check with your doctor first.

What is a typical Shiatsu session? A session lasts an hour.  The person remains dressed and lies on a tatami on the floor. Loose clothing, preferably made of natural fibres, makes the therapy easier. The session can be carried out in a sitting position for people who find lying down uncomfortable or who are unable to lie down.
